Badminton String Tension Calculator

String tension changes how your racket feels and plays. Pick your level and play style for a recommended tension range in pounds (lbs), then check the court dimensions and shuttle speed references below.

23–26 lbs

A balanced tension for mixed power and control.

Badminton court dimensions

A full court is 13.4 m long and 6.1 m wide (doubles). The singles sidelines are 5.18 m wide. The net is 1.55 m high at the posts and 1.524 m at the centre.

Shuttle speed reference

Feather shuttles are graded by speed number (typically 75–79); higher numbers fly faster and suit cooler, higher-altitude halls.

FAQ

What tension should a beginner use?

Around 20–23 lbs. A lower tension gives a larger sweet spot and more power while your technique develops.

Does higher tension mean more power?

No. Higher tension gives more control but a smaller sweet spot; most players get more power from a slightly lower tension.
